Blessed feast!

nativity

Today we celebrate the Nativity of the Theotokos (i.e. the birth of the Virgin Mary). It is also the day we celebrate the name day of our little Miriam Anna, named for Mary and her mother St. Anna.

As I mentioned yesterday, today was also supposed to be the day that Sophia and were churched, but James woke up complaining of an upset stomach. We’re not sure if he’s really sick or if it’s some sort of psychosomatic thing, as he seems fine, but with visions of James throwing up in the front row of the church where we sit, we decided to play it safe and stay home. But I ran to the church bookstore just long enough to get Miriam a new book for her name day, and we made a birthday cake for Mary and celebrated here at home. I have to think of a better treat to make for birthdays and name days. Now we have a giant two layer cake and I’m not sure any of us really needs to take care of that.
